I applied to Orchard Bank to improve my credit. Applied for a card with no annual fee.

I got approved for a credit limit of $300. The card showed up at my door Saturday, however the card that I now had also came with a $74. First thing Monday morning I was calling and complaining. I don't make much as it is, I am young and only working part time and they expect me to give them $74 for an annual fee which is almost 1/3 of the credit limit no to mention I made sure that I applied for a credit card with NO annual fee.

The first lady that I spoke to kept pushing for me to sign up for their credit protection plan, I had to tell her multiple times that I was not interested before she got the picture. Then she tried to force their life insurance on me and I demanded to speak to someone else. They gave me the run around for 30 minutes of the phone and couldn't do anything! not een cut it in half.

I was told the only thing they could do is close my account. My boyfriend however had the SAME problem but after him complaining they completely removed his fee.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST EVERYONE TO NEVER APPLIED FOR ANYTHING FROM ORCHARD BANK. I will not recommend Orchard Bank to anyone I know and I most definitely will never go bank to them.

You clearly didn't read the terms of the card correctly.

How about that APR? Do you know yet FOR SURE what it's going to be??

Because guess what ...? I GOT MY CARD, AND IT WAS 59.9% APR. Unfortunately i used it once before i noticed this. Should be illegal under loan sharking.

OR they should be arrested for anally raping me. GRRRRRRR

They tell you that there is an annual fee when you apply.

:x WELL I HAVE BEEN A CARD HOLDER FOR 1 YEAR, AND HAVE BEEN DECLINED FOR A RAISE IN CREDIT.....HOW DO YOU RAISE YOUR CREDIT SCORE WITHOUT CREDIT????? 300 DOLLARS IS NOT CREDIT ENOUGH TO REALLY RAISE YOUR SCORE SINCE THE "AMOUNT" OF CREDIT AVAILABLE IS A LARGE PART OF YOUR SCORE.

HSBC IS A POOR WAY TO REBUILD CREDIT OR BUILD CREDIT .

BUT LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE THIS IS ALL THERE IS FOR US. SO TH 74.00 "FEE" AND LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS WHAT WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH(AND THEY KNOW THAT)

Same here. I applied for a NO ANNUAL Fee credit card.

I read over the fine print. Had my boyfriend read over the documents. I was approved and even with the card received a document stating there was no annual fee. However, when I registered my account online, I noticed a $59 annual fee was assessed.

I have excellent credit, so the excuse that poor credit makes for a high fee is not correct in my situation. I will be paying the bill and closing this account immediately!

i have the same card and i realize that is water under the bridge and until you get your score higher since your a high risk that's the fee you haft to pay.

I just recieved my card and I am building my credit. When I applied online I read EVERYTHING even the small print.

It says you will be charge the $74.00 and it will be deducted from your $300 limit. I was at a point where I can pay that with the first statement.

Plus, someone mentioned about $300 limit is perfect for planning, budgeting and learning the right way to build credit. If the $74 is too much maybe you should not have applied for a credit card.

My wife received an application for their Mastercard. They now state that they have a $74 annual fee and your credit limit is $226, after the fee is charged. APR starts at 21%.

I have always felt that the card company should be required to tell you what your actuall credit limit will be at the time of signing up. Then if you realize you are going to have some *** $300 limit with $75 in fees right away, you should have the option to decline the card. They basically make you buy the car before you are allowed to actually see if it fits.

Lets hope she does not use it for a car or home..I believe she can get better interest rates than that offered by a credit card. This sounds as though they were trying to take advantage of her. I only use credit cards for emergencies

Still a good card if you have none.

Sometimes you need one even if it is only to start a Phone Service.

I believe her point was not that she did not read the fine print. It was that they told her it was a card with no annual fee and then it came with a fee.

she was trying to learn to handle credit cards. Starting with a $ 300.00 limit and then learning to budget this. She was not prepared to start out with a $74 fee and not even get anything in return for it. I believe they were deceptive and cruel.

I also have had problems with different credit card companies.

They are not always on the up and up. They take advantage of people who are just starting out or trying to re-establish credit.

Sounds like you should have read the fine print. If you don't have an income you definitely don't need a credit card. All you will do is cause credit disaster down the road when your going to need it to purchase a car and home.
